Step off the Savary wharf and you’re standing on Malaspina Promenade, the heart of the island’s pioneer community and its earliest cottages. What locals call the “Front Row” is a walk-on sweep of sand with a northwest view made for summer sunsets, lined with cottages that have stayed in the same families for generations.
Keep going past Townley Walk and the old wooden tennis courts toward the barge landing, where vehicles and building supplies come ashore. Alternatively, climb up Townley Walk and the road turns into the descending South Beach Trail, overlooked by cottages sitting on sun-drenched bluffs looking southeast over the Strait and its islands. It takes a bit of effort to get out there, and most people agree it’s worth it.

About Mace Point
Whilst Savary is an island made of sand, the very eastern tip of Savary is a huge granite rock anchoring the island.
The Front Row gives you level, walk-on sand with a northwest sunset view. South Beach (on the south side like the name suggests) is a short climb and then walking trail down to reach, but it pays you back with a flat sandy beach in full sun panoramic southeast views over the Strait toward Powell River.
Everything comes in through the barge landing just past the tennis courts, where building materials and vehicles are brought ashore. There’s a medivac helicopter pad nearby as well.
This is the oldest cottage community on Savary, and it feels like it: sociable, walkable, and full of island history. You’ll find classic Front Row cottages down low and sunnier homes up on the South Beach bluffs.
